The City of Kalispell has a tree ordinance in place which governs the tress in and on the public right-of-way. In order to encourage the planting of tress, the City of Kalispell has established a cost share program for right-of-way planting adjacent residential properties. The City has appropriated funds for this program and the program will be administered on a first come first serve basis.
To get started, please fill out this form. Once you application is received a site visit will be scheduled to evaluate the site (spacing, species, etc.) to determine if it qualifies for the 50/50 planting program. If approved you will be issues a voucher to take to the city's approved tree planting contractor. Once the homeowner's 50% responsibility is paid to the contractor, the contractor will work to schedule the planting.
Trees will be planted in either fall or spring. Trees will be planted by a contractor to meet the specifications of the tree ordinances (spacing, species, etc.) and in accordance with ANSI A300 planting standards. All nursery stock will meet the American Standard for Nursery Stock ANSI Z60.1-2014 standards.
Once planted it will be the responsibility of the adjacent landowner to water and care for the tree to help ensure survivability. All tress in the public right-of-way are the property of the City.
