Detective Division

The Detectives Division is comprised of one captain, one Senior Sergeant, three detectives, four School Resource Officers, one detective assigned to the Northwest Montana Drug Task Force and one Evidence Technician / Administrative Assistant (non-sworn).

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Detectives Division is to investigate and assist in the prosecution of felony cases including

  • Property crimes
    • Arson
    • Burglaries
    • Counterfeiting
    • Forgery
    • Fraud
    • Motor vehicle theft
    • Stolen property
    • Theft embezzlement
  • Weapons crimes

They are also assigned to investigate crimes against persons which include:

  • Assault
  • Domestic assaults
  • Homicide
  • Physical crimes against children
  • Rape
  • Robbery
  • Sexual

One detective is assigned to oversee the Sexual and Violent offender Registry for the City of Kalispell.

About the Detectives

The detectives also conduct background checks on applicants applying to be hired by the Kalispell Police Department and other city agencies as requested. Detectives are the department liaisons for Driving Under the Influence Court, Adult Protection Team (APT) meetings, Child Protection Team (CPT), Flathead County Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).

Throughout the year the detectives do public talks and community education presentations as requested on issues including thefts and robberies, identity theft and dangerous drug educational classes.
