- Stormwater
Rain or snow/ice melt is considered stormwater. In forests, plants and soil absorb most stormwater where it lands. In cities, stormwater cannot be absorbed by buildings and roads and can pick up pollutants from these surfaces. Stormwater flows to storm drains and ditches, which empty directly into our rivers and streams, often without treatment.
